Bus Story
So, I am a magnet for weird interactions.
You might think I wouldn’t like it and would try to avoid awkwardness, but the truth is, I love it. I have so many great stories to tell people because of it. My favorite one happened on a 10-minute bus ride. Short time, crazy story.
So, it’s early in the morning, I need to catch a bus so I can catch another one to visit my friend on the other side of town. I get on, go straight to the back and sit next to a woman. She was talking on the phone to her mother, but I wasn’t paying attention to what they were saying. Soon, she hangs up and starts talking to me, and her opening line was something like:
“Can you believe my ex is threatening to come after me and my family with a knife?”
I was instantly hooked.
She spent the next few minutes answering my questions, and I learned a few things: 1) Her new boyfriend is a police officer; 2) their relationship was not violent, he had never threatened her before; 3) she was thinking about moving out; 4) he came to her house with a knife/machete and threatened to hurt her and her mother if she didn't break up with her new boyfriend. She would say, “I don't understand why he would do something like that,” and I would say,“, please, please get a restraining order.”
But I think what struck me the most was when she calmly said,
“I don't know why he's doing this. We don't have anything else together. Just a credit card and three kids”
ONLY ONE CREDIT CARD AND THREE (3) KIDS
A CREDIT CARD WOULD BE A LOT, BUT THREE KIDS?!?!?!!?
Like, a credit card implies joint debt (what is already a bad thing), but they had twins and a toddler, and she thought it was no big deal?
Unfortunately, I had to leave, but I will never forget how that woman calmly explained all the crimes her ex was committing and how she thought having three children was no big deal.
Thank you for reading! English is not my first language, and I am still learning, so please forgive any mistakes.
