My quiet place on the internet
Sometimes I miss the quiet places on the internet. Everything is so noisy and polluted. Advertisements, pop-ups, autoplaying videos, "buy now" and mobile banners, it's like walking down a busy street full of billboards and signs, flashing, shining, and blinding your eyes.
Maybe that's why I always ended up here. No ads, no ragebait, no algorithm designed to addict you, just people talking about their day or something they like. It's a quiet place to decelerate and enjoy people, a piece of old times.
But moving on. I wasn't around for the old internet. I wasn't there for MSN, MySpace, GeoCities, Orkut (which was very popular here in Brasil) or a personal blog. I was too young and poor to have internet access; the only thing we had was a bad PC with a CRT monitor, some random old games, classical music, and Word, where I created stories based on stock photos.
The closest thing I had, when my family finally got Wi-Fi, were the RPG Maker horror game forums. I've already written a bit about how much I like Ib, but many others have marked me: The Witch's House, The Swamp Mermaid, The Forest of Incessant Rain, The Girl of Memories, Amayado Bus Stop (maybe the names are different since I only know them in Portuguese) were played and watched repeatedly in my pre-teen years.
I always find myself returning to a specific place, Zero Corpse, a group of people dedicated to translating and adapting these types of games. That's how my 13-year-old self, who didn't know English or Japanese, had access to them (some that I'm sure weren't suitable for my age). Today I'm fluent in English, so I have access to translations and native English games, a much wider range of possibilities. While browsing around, I stumbled upon some more recent indie games in that same style that enchanted me as a child.
I downloaded several of them and thought about playing some and coming here to give my opinion on them. When I started writing this post, I intended to talk about one that really caught my attention, called Flesh, Blood, & Concrete, but I went off on a tangent and it ended up being quite long, so that's for another post.
Just a quick thing about the blog. I'll try to write a little more frequently; I cleaned up and made several previous posts private because I no longer liked them. Maybe I'll repost/rewrite some of them in English. Coding is not my thing, but I will try my best to slowly fix this place.
